Prospective Book Authors

Once a manuscript is received it is peer reviewed. This takes one to four weeks. If the manuscript is approved, it will then proceed to the editing and publication stage. This takes six to ten weeks. Thus, Sandstone books are published within 14 weeks of receipt of the manuscript.

Sandstone pays authors a set commission of 20 per cent on all books that are sold. Royalties are paid on the wholesale price, which is normally 30 per cent less than the recommended retail price. Thus, a Sandstone book which has a recommended retail price of, say, $100 will result in an author royalty of $14 on each book sold.

Sandstone only publishes books that are commercially viable. The author is often in the best position to ascertain the viability of a book. Prior to proceeding to the publication phase, Sandstone must receive an order of at least 100 books from a bookshop, or the author.
